HAL's Race Results Mk.2 - Sailing Race Scoring Made Easy

Version 9.22 of HAL's Race Results was issued on 12 November 2009.

  • Race officers are invited to log in before they input results and to give details of the wind conditions.  These are automatically copied to any races that they select and will appear on outputs for those races. The wind conditions are particularly useful when analysing results for performance against handicap to see whether a particular boat performs better, relative to its handicap, in light or heavy conditions.
  • Recording wind data is simplified. Rather than record the direction in degrees, the race officer now picks a direction such as SW, E on a compass rose.
  • Race officers can change the way the finish time is input in handicap races. Instead of inputting clock time, from which the program subtracts the start time to get elapsed time, they can input the elapsed time directly. In other words, the time indicated on a stop watch that is set running at the start gun.
  • The Setup Screen has a facility to set default values for the start sequence and the time limit. These are copied to any new races. The default values do not affect any races that have already been set up.
    • The start sequence (5, 4, 1, off or any other combination) is used to print instructions as to when to raise and lower each flag. This is done from the screen where the race officer chooses the races he is running and can cover multiple starts.
    • The time limits are set on the Race Schedule screen and are used to give a warning if the race officer inputs a finish time that is too late. They are given in terms of the maximum elapsed time for the first boat, and the time after the first boat allowed for subsequent boats to finish.
  • The Setup Screen has a facility to record the email addresses of any officials that should receive notification of any emails sent to competitors from the program. These can be either general emails sent to all members of a particular class (from the Class Register) or links to results on HAL's Club Results Service.
