HAL's Race Results is fundamentally a Microsoft Access
database program. To run it you need to have Access, which
is part of the Microsoft Office suite. However we
supply a free runtime version of Access if necessary. |
|
What version of Access does it need? HAL's
Race Results will work with any version from Access 2000
onwards. It will not work with Access 97 or earlier.
Some of the screens have a slightly different appearance if used with
Access 2007. |
| How do I know whether I have Access on my computer?
If you have Access already you should be able to find it in your
Start / Programs menu. Run it and open the Help /
About Microsoft Access menu item to determine which version you
have. It should say Access 2000 or later (Access XP,
Access 2003 or Access 2007). Access
2000 is also known as Access version 9. |
| What happens if I do not have Access? You can
run HAL's Race Results with a special cut-down version called
Access 2000 Runtime. Access 2000 Runtime is free. |
| Instructions to install Access 2000 Runtime Click
download Access
2000 Runtime (about 33 MBytes). If you are asked whether to
run the downloaded file or save it, choose save and select a
place on your hard drive to put it. Once the file has been
downloaded, browse to it and double-click it
to extract all the component files. Then double-click Setup to
install the program. |
| Should I install Access Runtime even if I already have
Access on my computer? No. Different versions of
Access are not compatible with each other and you should not
install more than one. If you have an old version of
Access (Access 97 or earlier) you should remove it before
installing Access 2000 Runtime. However think carefully
before doing so. If you have applications that use the
older version of Access, you will not be able to run them with
Access 2000 runtime. Runtime is a cut-down version of
Access which does not have the interface that is normally used
to work with Access applications. It is fine for HAL's Race
Results because that has its own interface. |
