Where and when?
You need to make an early decision on the basic arrangement for producing the results.
There
are three fundamental options.
- Option 1. Do the results on the committee boat, or
in the starting hut if you are shore-based, with the race officer's team.
- Option 2. Get the results back
to the club for processing
immediately after each race, by radio,
telephone or RIB.
- Option 3. Bring the results back
to the club for processing at the end of the day.
Which option is best will depend on the facilities available, the experience
of your race team and the importance you attach to getting the results out quickly.
Personal opinion. The advantage of being quick is often under-estimated.
Competitors really appreciate seeing their results as soon as they come ashore.
Allowing them to inspect provisional results immediately is a good initial quality
check and frequently leads to errors being caught early. Competitors fully understand
that provisional results may be revised due to retirements, or mistakes made by
the race team, or as a result of protest meetings or jury decisions.
