Guidelines for scoring an event

Here are some thoughts on setting up HAL's race Results for an event, such as a regatta or championship.

Where and when should you compute the results? How important is it to get the results out fast? Score at sea, or ashore?

What do I need?  This depends on the answer to the where and when question.

Classes and race schedule  As soon as the notice of race is published, set up the classes and the schedule of races.

As the entries come in  populate the boat register. Publish the latest entry list frequently and correct any errors that are reported.

On registration day Get each competitor to check the details of his boat as part of the registration process.

Each day of the event Make entry lists and score sheets for the race officer's team.

After each race Produce provisional results and get them into circulation fast.

Final results and prize giving Produce validated results.
