What are tandem series?
Tandem series are ghost series that do not have results of their own, but draw them from other series. You do not input results for a tandem
series, you input them for real series and use them again for tandem series.
- You can use tandem series to compute the results of a series or race using different handicaps.
You can enter finish times once but have two sets of results, one using Portsmouth
Yardstick and one IRC perhaps.
- You can use them to select just some of the boats in a series and
compute a set of results for them, separately from the main results.
- You can use them to combine two series into one overall series. Thus you might
have a Spring Series and a Summer Series with their own results and separate
results
for both series combined.
- You can use them to compute results for just some of the races in a series. Thus
you might have a long overall series, but pick out just those races in August for
special prizes.
- You can use them to compute overall results for races that take place in flights.
Such races use one course but race the boats in flights with a few minutes between
successive starts.
Note that, whatever you use them for, tandem series have all the
flexibility of original series. Each has its own scoring system and its
own table of discards, both of which could be different from the
original series from which they derive results.
