What happens when I change the start time of a race?
The scheduled start time of each race is set on the Race Schedule screen. Of course sometimes
things do not go according to plan and you have to change the start time of a race.
You can do this either on the Race Schedule screen, if you are logged
in as the administrator, or you can do it on the first of the Enter Results screens, where you choose the races
whose results you are entering.
In either case, if you have not entered any results yet there is nothing to be concerned about. If results
have already been entered for the race, you need to think whether altering the start time will alter
the results.
- In the case of level races, where no finish time is used, there is no problem. You can alter the start
time with impunity.
- In the case of handicap races, you have to think a bit more. Since each result has a finish time, altering
the start time alters the elapsed and, hence, corrected time. This is the case even if you entered a
stop-watch time, rather than a clock time, since HAL uses the stop-watch time to calculate a finish time
by adding it to the start time.
- If you put in genuine finish times from a clock, and merely forgot to set the correct start time, updating the start time will correct what were previously incorrect results.
- If you entered correct stop-watch times you will need to update each finish time to allow for the revised start
time. You need to review the results and edit each one.
