HAL's Race Results Bulletin 1 of 2010
I am well on the way to producing the first issue of HAL for 2010.
I have a beta version for you to
download and test, with all the new features except the
2010 Portsmouth Yardstick numbers and the final interface with
Sail Racer.
The new features, over and above those in Version 9.22, are:
- There is a new PDF
manual for you to print.
- You can read results from a spreadsheet, as well as inputing them
directly.
- Series net points and rank are shown on individual race results, in
addition to the boat's position in that particular race. (You need to request
this on the Setup screen.)
- Editing the results of level races is easier. When you review
the results on screen, there are arrow buttons to move each result up or
down a place. You can also select two or more adjacent results and
right-click them to make them tie for a place.
- The login and password details for HAL's Club Results Service are on
the Setup screen, rather than being requested every time you upload results.
You also specify the result set on the Setup screen, so that there is less
danger of uploading to the wrong result set by mistake.
- There is a new screen to make a static web site, in other words to generate
a set of HTML files with an index, a page or results for each series and
a page for each individual race. Previously you did this from the
Review by Series screen.
- There is a new screen for analysing turnout statistics, rather than
doing it from the Boat Register as in the past. You can do the analysis
for specific series, as well as generate overall turnouts.
- In the Boat Register, you can sort and find boats by their email addresses,
as well as by sail number, bow number, boat name, helm, crew, owner and
club. This helps to track down those misspelled addresses that generate
returned mail messages.
- Printouts with many columns are allowed to spread across more than
one sheet horizontally, rather than being crammed into one page width.
- Series results are calculated much faster for large fleets with many
races.
- Pictures of the flags to be raised and lowered are included in the start
sequence output.

As always, I greatly value your comments and feedback.
Happy sailing,
