HAL's Race Results Bulletin 1 of 2009
You are probably wondering when the 2009 edition of HAL's race Results is coming out. Well, it is ready. In fact two versions are ready, the 2009 edition of the Mk.1 program and an entirely new Mk.2 program.
I am just waiting for the latest Portsmouth Yardstick numbers to be issued by the Royal Yachting Association, which I believe will be at the Dinghy Show this weekend. I should be able to put the new programs onto the web early next week.
Except for the PY numbers, the 2009 edition of the Mk.1 program is exactly the same as the 2008 one.
Of course I think Mk.2 is much better than Mk.1. But do not worry, I am not going to force you to use Mk.2 if you do not want to. I am still supporting Mk.1 until December 2009.
So you have three options for 2009:
  • Download the Mk.2 version and use it this year. You can load your data from a Mk.1 archive file, so you will not have to start from scratch.
  • If you need the 2009 PY numbers, but are a cautious type, you could download the updated Mk.1 program and move to Mk.2 later. (You might wish to run them in parallel for a while. You can put them both on the same machine, they will not interfere with each other.)
  • If you do not need the 2009 PY numbers, you could do nothing. Just keep using your existing Mk.1 program and move to Mk.2 when it suits you.
Expect another bulletin next week when I have put the 2009 editions on the web site.

Happy sailing,
Peter Hopford
